Crystal Cox

Crystal Cox confessed to using anabolic steroids, an admission that could have some major repercussions. The Survivor contestant, who finished in sixth place, is facing serious charges from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). What’s at stake? Keep reading to find out…

An alternate for the Olympic Relay Team, Cox won the gold medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics but based on her recent confession, the medal could be taken away from her and possibly her teammates. Cox has already been banned for four years and will have her results from 2001 to 2004 disqualified. The AP reports that Cox “admitted to using anabolic steroids and agreed to the penalty Friday.”

The IOC is arranging a disciplinary hearing for the former Survivor cast member which will most likely lead to the loss of the gold medal. In the past, the IOC typically has stripped relay teams of their medals when a team member has been charged with drug use.

Cox, who finished sixth on Survivor Gabon, competed in the 4×400 relay race in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens alongside teammates Monique Henderson, Monique Hennagan, Sanya Richards and Deedee Trotter, edging out Russia and Jamaica, who won the silver and bronze medals respectively. If the U.S. Team loses their medal because of Cox’s steroid use, this will be the fourth time in the past decade that a U.S. relay team has lost their medal due to doping.
